Chholiya – The Sword Dance Of Kumaun

30 May 2016 Monday. Chholiya – The sword dance of kumaun performs by a pair of male dancer. it may be 1 to 12 pair of male dancer with the swords in their hand. at least it needs one pair of dancers.These dancers wear very colorful dress that will surely attract you.  The chholiya dance is folk dance of kumaun that shows an ancient developed tradition of uttarakhand.


This dance is very entertaining and joyful because the dancers shows many type of stunt by their sword some time. Children get very excited while watching this dance. this dance is perform in any ceremony of home or in any festivals to attract people. You will attract with this dance simply in first look.


In the local language this dance is known as “Sarankar Dance”. This dance is presented by the help of instrument “Hudaka” and Bagpiper.They have some other music instrument that makes the dance dramatic and joyful
